VisitStockholm

"Only miss the sun when it starts to snow..."

Hej-hej=)

I've fallen behind with my report about recent visit to Stockholm. Now it's here;)

Being the main country of Scandinavia (it's only my opinion) I should have visited Sweden much earlier. But when you have a special purpose besides ordinary tourist trip it's much more relevant.

We stayed at typical ikea-style apartment and I was totally happy about it! White walls and furniture with a strong emphasis on a few bright colours, simple interior items, but very cute - The Swedes are good judges of making their home light and cosy.

We weren't succed with a weather those days. The rain could break out and stop suddenly. But local citizens got used to it, they don't take umbrelas and kids walk in light T-shirts, whereas I wraped scarf and wear a hat. It's not surprising as they are tempered from childhood. You know, Sweden seemed to be a real good place for upbringing children and great many of parents with two or three blue-eyed blonde little angels proves it.

The transport system in Stockholm is well organized, we bought one ticket for 3 days and could use any kind of transport from buses to ferry. The Stockholm underground is also known as the world's longest art gallery as so many of its stations are adorned with the works of different artists.

On the first day we got the city center with small but beautiful cherry garden, king’s palace, at noon my sister with her man joined us at lunch time and then they took us to Gamla Stan – old town of Stockholm where we walked all day. At the end of Friday we observed the city from a high hill feeling as if we were Carlsons. Need to be mentioned that I hadn’t find any souvenirs with that well-known character in Russia. Citizens explain they don’t like him much because of frivolous behavior at such age.

The next day we visited two museums. First one is a Sky view at Globe Arena which symbolized a center of solar system – the sun. And sky view is a spherical elevator which transport passengers onto the top of arena. It provides virtually unobstructed views over Stockholm.

And the second museum  is Vasa Museum. There is only one exhibit inside – a 64-gun warship of 17 century that sank on her maiden voyage in 1628. Vasa was dangerously unstable due to too much weight in the upper structure of the hull. Despite this lack of stability she was ordered to sea and foundered only a few minutes after encountering with a strong wind.  The main hall contains the ship itself and various exhibits related to the archaeological findings of the ships and the history of Sweden in the 17th century.

Sunday was surprisingly sunny warm day and we spent it in the largest park where you can explore the representation of agricultural Sweden life during the centuries and zoo with lots of animals in wide enclosures. Stockholm is famous for its buns with cinnamon, so we tasted them with perfect latte cafe at Gamla Stan. And of course I was crazy about idea to find the biggest crown and make photos with it - done!

...How nice that in time only warm and bright memories remain. Scroll down for photos and welcome to Stockholm :-)

My family - my castle.
